Auditions for Milligan’s spring production, “Proof,” will take place on Jan. 25 and 26 in Derthick 306C.
“Auditions will consist of a short, cold reading from the script and a brief interview with me,” said Dick Major, professor of theater.
The play will be performed March 15-18 in SUB 7.
Students wanting to audition should sign up for a 10-minute slot on the theater callboard next to the registrar’s office in Derthick. Auditioning students should arrive 10 minutes before their assigned time to fill out an audition form. No previous experience is necessary.
Major said interested students should read the script before their audition. The script is on reserve in the library.
“Proof,” winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for drama and a Tony Award, centers around the characters Robert, a well-known mathematician who lost his sanity, and Catherine, his mathematically-gifted daughter who is too depressed to work.
"I think there is some connection between extremely prodigious mathematical ability and craziness,” Auburn said in a 2000 New York Times interview. “I don't think that math drives people crazy, but those with edgy or slightly irrational personalities are drawn to it."
Milligan’s production will be the area debut of “this important American play,” Major said. “Dealing with deep dark secrets of the soul, Mr. Auburn has written a mesmerizing play of suspense which will have anyone who sees it hanging on every word,”
