Milligan’s Student Government Association met Tuesday evening for the first time this semester to discuss upcoming events and projects.

Junior Mark Ford, firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician, briefed the attendees on the importance of installing Automated External Defibrillators on Milligan’s campus. These computerized devices are used to shock a person’s heart in the event of cardiac arrest.

Ford’s proposal was to install a minimum of six AEDs at various points around Milligan’s campus: Sutton Hall, Seeger Chapel, Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, Hardin Hall, the security vehicle and the clubhouse by Anglin Field. Each defibrillator costs about $2,500 each, bringing the minimum total cost to $15,000.

“This proposal would be the bare minimum for the safety of the campus,” said Ford.

SGA senate approved a request from junior Tom Jones and senior Joe Dyer to purchase 1,000 bracelets featuring Steven Hunter’s initials on one side and “In the Lord’s hands” on the opposite. Jones and Dyer plan to ask for $1 or $2 donations for the bracelets and to ask Milligan to match the total amount raised.  Proceeds will contribute toward the purchase of AEDs.
