Jacqui Steadman, a native of Johnson City, replaced Associate Vice President of Business and Finance Chris Rolph, who left Milligan on Jan. 20 after 10 years of service.

While Rolph was the Associate Vice President of Business and Finance, Steadman was not hired at associate level.  Instead, she was hired as Vice President of Finance.

President Jeanes made this decision so that the responsibilities of the business and finance areas would be equally divided and because of  Steadman’s level of experience and expertise, said Joe Whitaker, Vice President of Business and Finance.

“As an organization grows, it requires a more specific focus on some key functions and, certainly, Milligan is growing,” Whitaker said.

Steadman’s duties will involve "carrying out the accounting and financial functions of the college for internal and external reporting,” she said.

In short, Steadman will arrange and monitor the college’s budget and oversee the student financial services area.

“An average day for me will probably be preparing different types of reports and performing certain monthly accounting tasks,” Steadman said. She will need to be “available for any financial type problems that might come up.”

Steadman will also serve on the Cabinet and chair the Budget Committee.

Whitaker will become the Vice President of Business, dropping finance from his title. He said his duties will not change. They include managing the budget for the departments of Personnel, Physical Plant, Bookstore and Food Service.

Whitaker also coordinates the work of these departments through their respective supervisors.

“I am responsible for daily cash management and investments, coordination of the college’s insurance program, contract negotiation and completion, banking relationships, endowment work … and any other general business matters of the college,” Whitaker said.

Both Whitaker and Steadman will report to the President. “We are each committed to working together on any business and finance issue that is best approached collaboratively,” Whitaker said

The transfer to Milligan is not a major move for Steadman.

“I grew up about one mile from Milligan,” Steadman said. “I have lived here my entire life.”

She said although Rolph has “left some big shoes to fill,” she is “looking forward to coming to Milligan College and to building relationships with others on campus and a new career challenge.”

“I have worked in public accounting for over 14 years,” Steadman said. “When the opportunity presented itself, I decided to go work for my favorite client.”

“Mr. Whitaker and I made the decision to hire Mrs. Steadman,” Jeanes said. “She has worked with Blackburn, Childers & Steagall for about 10 years. During that time, she has worked on a number of the external audits for Milligan College.”

“Since we have worked with her, we have the greatest confidence in her and felt she would be a good fit at Milligan,” Jeanes said.

Steadman has been married to Mark Steadman—an accounting professor at ETSU—for 14 years. The couple has two children: John, 12, and Samantha, 9. They attend school at Providence Academy.

Steadman officially begins her duties at Milligan on Feb. 6, Whitaker said.
