Indoor track takes Milligan to Appalachian State

The men and women’s track teams competed in the Mountaineer Winter Open on Saturday at Appalachian State University. Milligan took four men and five women to race in this 12-team competition. 

Senior Chris Wright finished 10th place in the one-mile run with a time of 4.36.03.  Senior Brandon Talbert came in 14th place with 4.40.29, and freshman Will Frye 18th with 4.47.12.

Wright also competed in the 3000-meter run, marking a time of 9.27.95 and earning a 13th place finish out of 23 competitors.

Junior Jair Collie had an 11th place finish out of 21 competitors in the 800-meter run with a time of 2.04.11.

Freshman Kim Hogan finished the women’s 800-meter run in 16th place with a time of 2.40.75.

Freshmen Emily Schmitt and Nicole Moore and sophomore Bailey Carter ran the women’s one mile, coming in 6th, 10th and 14th.  Schmitt closed a time of 5.38.93, Moore 5.53.51, and Carter 6.18.57.

Senior Megan Allen took an 8th-place finish in the women’s 3000-meter run with a time of 11.59.83.

Freshman Nicole Moore said that she and her teammates ran well in this meet considering they only took a small team. “I think regardless of how well you do, you take every experience and learn from it,” she said.

Milligan’s track team will compete Feb. 9 at the Valentine Open in Boone, N.C.
