Three hundred women attended the first Ladies Conference hosted by the Associated Ladies for Milligan (ALM) on Saturday.
“I really didn’t know how many to expect for the first time, but I thought if we had 200 it would be great,” said Clarinda Jeanes, founder and director of ALM.
Entitled “Becoming a Woman of Love, Truth and Power,” the conference’s message was divided into three sessions and delivered by Rebecca Pippert, founder of Salt Shaker Ministries and author of “Out of the Salt Shaker and into the World.”
Pippert’s message on imitating Christ struck home with several attendees.
“So often I am caught up being Christian that I am not Christ,” said freshman Mindy Hochmuth. “The speaker said that Jesus was ‘radically identified with the world in love by radically different in holiness.’ In my attempt to remember Jesus as a suffering servant and holy sacrifice, I forget that he lived with, ate with and talked with sinners.”
The day’s events, held in Seeger Chapel, lasted from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and included a box lunch. A local worship team led the women in singing and praise time, and the musical group SoulReal performed a mini concert.
“Our goal for the day was to touch women’s lives and to make them evaluate how they can be more involved in reaching others for Christ,” Jeanes said. “I was hoping everyone would be glad they gave up a Saturday and would have received a blessing. I think we accomplished that.”
ALM is planning to host another conference next year on Feb. 18. The speaker for the day will be Liz Curtis Higgs who will talk about the “Bad Girls of the Bible” and what can be learned from them.
