Milligan’s 19th annual One Act Festival, scheduled to be held April 25-29, will feature four plays, each directed by a senior Milligan student: Amber Carderelli, Clara and the Gambler; Martha Rose, Bitsy and Her Friends; Victoria Bailey, Gershwin Musical Review; and Crystal VanMeter, Soap Opera.
Typically students enrolled in theater professor Dick Major’s theater workshop class direct the plays. However, since this is an off year for the course, students from last year’s class were asked to return and direct again.
“We had more men than ever come out (for auditions),” said VanMeter. “Unfortunately we had more women roles than men. A lot of talented men did not get a role for that reason.”
Though the number of plays being performed is lower than usual, the night is still expected to go well.
“The One Act Festival is always a big hit so I'm confident that we'll have just as much success this year as in years past,” said Bailey. “It's always fun to come out on a nice evening and see our friends perform in that casual, unique environment that can only be found at the One Acts.”
