Golf

Milligan’s golf team, the defending Appalachian Athletic Conference champions, captured their second first-place finish and set a new school record on Wednesday at the Cattails Collegiate Invitational.

The Buffs finished with a four-man score of 291 after 18 holes. The score surpassed Milligan’s previous record of 297. Milligan also dominated the individual results with five players taking the top five slots: sophomore Matt Barefoot, sophomore Aaron Jessee, sophomore Ryan Morris, freshman Grayson Patton and sophomore Matt Ongie.

Milligan will compete at the BMW Collegiate at The Links O’Tyron in Campobello, South Carolina next week.

Baseball

The Milligan College baseball team traveled to Mars Hill College (N.C.) on Wednesday where they gained another win 17-10.

At the end of the first inning the teams were tied with one run. Milligan began pulling away during the third inning to bring the score to 5-1, but Mars Hill was not yet out of contention for the win as they came back within one run during the fourth inning. Milligan continued to dominate during the fifth when they reached home plate seven times, and Mars Hills captured only one run. By the bottom of the seventh, the Buffs were leading 15-5. Mars Hills fought their way through Milligan’s large lead to bring the score to 15-8, but it was not enough as both teams scored two runs in the final inning, bringing the game to a close at 17-10.

The Buffs record stands at 18-14 for the season and 10-3 in the conference. They travel to King College this weekend for a three-game series.

Tennis

After experiencing numerous match cancellations because of spring rain, Milligan’s men’s and women’s tennis teams enjoyed Wednesday’s sunny weather by defeating Maryville College.

The men’s team won 8-1, winning the three doubles matches and five out of six single matches. The women’s team swept Maryville 9-0.

Next up for the teams are matches at UVA-Wise this weekend.
