First Winterfest held this week

If you are feeling the winter blues, a need to escape campus or just another excuse to not do homework, Milligan’s Student Government Association (SGA) has created the solution-Winterfest.

“SGA felt that the months from January until Spring Break can get long, and this would help to break up the monotony,” said sophomore class representative Shannon Patterson.

The week-long event, which lasts Feb. 23-27, began with skiing at Beech Mountain. Women could ski for free, and men had to pay $26.
Each of the subsequent nights was sponsored by a class, starting with the freshmen showing Run Away Jury on Tuesday in Wilson Auditorium. According to Patterson, the original plan was bowling, but the alley was unable to accommodate numerous Milligan students with the large number of bowlers that already come on Tuesday nights.

For the sophomore event on Wednesday, the Shoreline Poets performed at King’s Coffeehouse. Milligan students who brought their college I.D.s received a discount.

Juniors also ran into planning problems for Thursday.

“There were definitely troubles scheduling the event,” said Matt Mueller, junior class representative. “We wanted to have a sock hop but we were unable to find a location.”

The seniors’ conclusion to the week will take place at the Bonnie Kate for midnight showings of The Passion of The Christ and 50 First Dates.

“I hope this becomes a yearly event,” Mueller said. “This would be great for years to come so students have something to look forward to in the spring.”
