Milligan’s Missions Club will be going to David, Panama for spring break. This is the first trip sponsored by the Missions Club several years.
“There were many times that I thought this trip would never happen, but it was God who made it possible,” said Kelly Sharp, co-president of the club.
The reason the club decided to sponsor this trip is to give students who are thinking about becoming a missionary a chance to experience the cross-cultural mission field in a new way, a way that was not currently being offered.
Kristina Kayser, co-president of the Missions Club, and Sharp are the only two from the Missions Club going this year. The total cost of the trip is $1,100 for each person. They requested support from churches, organizations and individuals. Kayser and Sharp were successful in raising the money.
They fly out of Knoxville on March 5 at 9:30 a.m. and will return the evening of March 13.
“I think this trip will benefit the Panamanians simply because they will see how God’s love spans all cultures and distance,” Sharp said.
They will be spending most of their time with missionaries Glen and Sherry Russell, who are supported by Sharp’s home church. Kayser and Sharp will be helping with Vacation Bible School and Bible studies. They also hope to visit a clinic in Boquete for a couple of days.
“This will be a great time to learn firsthand what life is like in the mission field,” Sharp said. Both Kayser and Sharp plan on becoming missionaries.
The Missions Club meets every other Monday at 9 p.m. in lower Seeger or in Sub7. They have occasional guest speakers, and also sponsor a fall trip to the National Missionary Convention.
