The women’s basketball team lost to Union College Saturday at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse despite improving their efforts and out shooting Union during the second half.
In the first half, Union came out strong shot 53 percent from the field, compared to Milligan’s 34 percent. At the end of the half, the Lady Buffs were behind 28-37.
Milligan came out in the second half prepared to make a comeback. They played both sides of the court and were strong on defense as well as offense. Union was held back as the Lady Buffs pushed forward to score 39 points in the second half. However, even with their added force, it was not enough to win. Milligan eventually lost 67-73.
Senior Joy Clark played an outstanding game with a total of 15 points along with one assist and one steal. Sophomore Kari Stout contributed nine points, five assists, and two steals. Freshman Kacie Letterman added nine points. Juniors Ann Marie Gardner and Lacy York each added in eight points.
On Tuesday night, the Lady Buffs traveled to King College where they lost 52-63.
The recent losses bring the team’s record to 7-21 overall and 6-14 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Lady Buffs finish out their regular season this week as they face Alice Lloyd tonight and Brevard on Saturday, both games at home.
