The Milligan College Dance Team surprised the crowds at the basketball games on Saturday night when, instead of dancing, they held a dance-off that required audience participation.

Team co-captain junior Jennifer Greenwell announced that during the halftimes of each game the crowd would get the opportunity to perform with the dance team. Each performer chose a member of the crowd as a dance partner.

“We really appreciate the fans who have come out to support us this year,” Greenwell said, “and we wanted to give a little back to them and get them involved in the activity we love the most.”

The audience members competed against each other for the prize of getting to sit in VIP seating on a couch located at center court. They danced to the song the “Cha Cha Slide.” The fans decided the winners by applause.

The winners also received a free pizza from Opie’s Pizza and a soft drink from the concession stand.

Fifteen people participated during each halftime. Participants ranged from students and professors to children and fans from the opposing team. The winner during the women’s game was Tyler Williams, a ten-year-old from Hampton, Tenn.

“I was excited that I won, and I had fun,” Williams said.

The winner during the men’s game was junior Matthew Mueller.

“We were really pleased with how involved (the crowd was),” Greenwell said, “We hope to do it at least once a year—maybe more—from now on.”
