The women’s soccer team advanced to the semi-finals of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament after beating Montreat on Saturday 2-1.

Sophomore Katie Lindemann scored the Lady Buffs’ first goal in the 16th minute of play off an assist from senior Bianca Spoto. Less than a minute later, Spoto scored off an assist from Lindemann.

The team acknowledges that they didn’t play their best on Saturday, but are still happy with the win.

“(During tournaments) we don’t really care how ugly we play as long as we come up with the win,” Spoto said.

The women will face off against no. 2 ranked Virginia Intermont in the next round of the tournament. The Lady Buffs lost to VI during the regular season 2-1.

Lindemann says she feels confident they can beat VI.

“We're more prepared for Virginia Intermont this time than we were the first time we played them,” Lindemann said. “We're better than VI, we just need to play like we know we are.”

The Lady Buffs will travel to Union College on Friday to play against Virginia Intermont in the semi-finals of the AAC Tournament.
