Milligan loses five straight matches

The Lady Buffs volleyball team suffered defeat four times over the weekend at the Maryville Tournament. The women faced off against Washington and Lee, Centre, Emory and Henry and Lynchburg Colleges without winning a single game.

 

In the first match of the tournament against Washington and Lee on Friday, Milligan lost 15-30, 15-30 and 17-30. Senior Myra O’Dell had seven assists and Freshman Dianne Sooter had two. Junior Lindsey Wetherholt and Sophomore Joy Dobbs added five and three kills respectively. Freshman Tara Earhart, Sooter and Dobbs each contributed one ace. Sophomore Katie Mullins added eight digs, and Freshmen Beth Snapp and Krissi Denton each added five. Earhart also contributed two blocks, and Freshman Allison Langrel and Dobbs each had one.

 

In the second match on Friday against Centre College, the scores were 20-30, 23-30 and 18-30. O’Dell and Sooter had 13 and 12 assists respectively. Earhart contributed with 11 kills, Langrel had six and Snapp had five. Snapp also had two aces, and both Earhart and Sooter contributed one. Mullins and Snapp each had nine digs, and Langrel added one block.

 

“Since we are a young team, we may not always be on our game, but we always have points when we do work together,” Dobbs said.

 

The third and fourth matches were played on Saturday. In the game against Emory and Henry, Milligan lost 27-30, 24-30 and 26-30. O’Dell led with an impressive 22 assists. Earhart also contributed largely with 16 kills. O’Dell and Wetherholt each had four kills. Dobbs, Snapp, and Earhart each contributed two aces. Mullins led with 12 digs. Langrel and Sophomore Amanda Caldwell each added one block.

 

In the final game of the Maryville Tournament, the Lady Buffs lost to Lynchburg College 17-30, 19-30 and 24-30. O’Dell led the team with 13 assists and Sooter had nine. Earhart added nine kills. Dobbs and Snapp each added one ace. Mullins and Snapp had eight digs each and Denton added five.

 

“Our defensive specialists Katie Mullins, Krissi Denton and Beth Snapp nailed most of their passes and are key factors in our games and hopefully in the coming tournaments,” Dobbs said.

 

In addition to the weekend tournament, Milligan played King College on Tuesday and lost 15-30, 26-30 and 26-30.
