Men's: The Milligan men’s soccer team lost 2-3 to 14th ranked Virginia Intermont in a conference match on Sept. 30. Senior Brian Okumu scored an unassisted goal in the first half and senior Phillip Brock scored off of an assist from junior Ali Mohamed. The Buffs went into halftime tied 2-2 with VI.

VI came back in the 54 minute to score a goal off of a penalty kick, giving them a one-goal lead for the rest of the game.

Over fall break, the Buffs traveled to Pennsylvania to play Seton Hill and Geneva. Milligan lost to Seton Hill 2-3. Mohamed and freshman Caleb Bowman gave Milligan their only two goals of the game. Freshman goalie Jordan Fode had four saves.

In the game against Geneva, the Buffs led the game 1-0 going into the second half, but Geneva came back and defeated Milligan 1-2.

Bowman scored Milligan’s lone goal off an assist from freshman Justin Fuller. Freshman goalie Joel Wanyoike had three saves in the game.

The men’s record is now 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Women's: The women’s soccer team traveled to New York over fall break to play Houghton College. The Buffs were defeated 0-1. Houghton scored its only goal in the 64th minute off a free kick.

“We lost a tough one to a very good Houghton team,” head coach David Dixon said. “They are currently ranked #10 in the NAIA.”

The Lady Buffs overall record is 5-5.

Dixon said the team is young and has also dealt with challenges all season while playing nationally ranked teams.

“We have battled our way through injuries and the toughest schedule in the country,” Dixon said.  “We have nine teams on our schedule that are either currently or were ranked in the NAIA Top 25.  (Playing these teams) is only going to make us better for the playoffs and the future.”
