The men’s tennis team battled and lost 7-2 against King College on Monday.

“We were very competitive in doubles, especially at no. 1 and no. 2,” head coach Rich Aubrey said, “We were just unable to take advantage of opportunities that would have allowed us to win.”

Both wins came from singles players senior Adam Campbell and freshman Ryan Reynolds. Playing in the no. 4 singles position on the team, Campbell wiped out his opponent with scores 6-0, 6-3. Reynolds played his game the best he has all season. Reynolds defeated his opponent in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.

“Ryan Reynolds recorded his best win of the season with a great comeback,” Aubrey said. “He played his best tennis of the year in singles.”

According to Aubrey, the games are getting more intense, and players are playing harder and harder. The team and coach have high hopes for the remainder of the season, despite their loss Monday.

The Buffs will begin tournament play this weekend at Liberty Bell in Johnson City. Monday’s loss sends Milligan into the tournament with a record of 4-8 for the season.

The Lady Buffs dominated against King’s women’s tennis team with a score of 9-0. The women won the all of the matches in two sets or less.

“I thought I played really well and I feel confident going into the tournament,” said senior Sara Wallingford who defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2.

Wallingford commented that the past two years of rebuilding the team’s chemistry, skill, and confidence have led to this being a great season for the Lady Buffs.
