The Lady Buffs tennis team defeated King College at home on Tuesday, winning 9-0, and securing their second Appalachian Athletic Conference win. This is the team’s second win, their first one coming from UVA Wise on Sunday, 5-4.

“I think the past two wins have helped out our confidence level and that will carry over to the next few matches,” said senior Amy Vincent.

Junior Jessica Conn said the win was a result of Milligan playing well and King’s young team.

The women’s team won in no. 1 and 3 doubles with junior Cheri Lomison and sophomore Cassie Lomison winning 8-6 and freshman Krissi Denton and Vincent taking their opponents 8-1. In singles wins came from no. 1 Cassie, 8-5; no. 5 Cheri, 8-5; and no. 6 Conn, 8-6.

“It was a good win,” said coach Marvin Glover. “We’ve struggled overall to find consistency this season, but that’s due in large part to the quality of opponents we’ve faced.” Glover said the challenging non-conference schedule should “pay dividends,” in conference games, as it did against UVA Wise.

The Lady Buffs were defeated 0-9 at Tusculum on Friday. The women’s overall record for the season rests at 2-3 and 2-1 for the AAC. Both the men’s and women’s teams are scheduled to play this Saturday at Tennessee Wesleyan.
