The softball team defeated the Virginia Intermont Lady Cobras 7-0 and 5-0 in a double header on Monday afternoon.

“They played very well as our pitching was tremendously good, we hit the ball when we needed, and our defense only committed one error in both games,” said head coach Wes Holly.

Junior Brandy Waddle pitched her second no-hitter of the season by striking out six batters.

In the fifth inning, with the bases loaded, sophomore Rebecca Gilley stepped up to the plate. She began a four-run streak for the Lady Buffs and had three RBIs. Junior Brooke Davis earned an RBI by scoring Gilley.

“(Gilley) delivered the big blow in game one with a double scoring two runs in the third inning,” Holly said.

In the second game, junior Traci Harrison pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts.

Freshman Megan Aldridge batted 2-3, followed by freshman Sarah Smith who went 1-4, and senior Shelby Banion who batted 1-3 in the second game. The Lady Buffs committed only one error in the second game.

“Hopefully as young as we are, we are starting to come together as a good ball team,” Holly said.

The team improved to 15-7 overall and 8-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
