The Milligan College men’s tennis team battled King College but was defeated 8-1 Wednesday afternoon.

“It was really hot and heavy,” said head coach Rich Aubrey, “Even though we didn’t win, everyone really played well."

Strong strokes and powerful serves came from all players during their games with King. Adam Campbell won 6-0, 6-2 in singles. The only Milligan player to come close to his powerful win was freshman Tom Jones cutting it close with scores of 4-6, 4-6.

“Like most players, I sometimes start out slow,” said freshman Ryan Reynolds, “but as the matches go on, my game gets better and better. That’s when it gets the most fun.”

The team, with lead players’ Jones and Reynolds, has high hopes for this season. Ranking fifth in last year’s conference and fourth two years ago, both players and coach agree that Milligan will soon advance in ranking at conference.

“I really think that we can step up this year at conference,” said Jones. “We may not score high in points some games, but the quality of our game is really improving.”

“The team is competing well,” Aubrey said. “We have a strong, fresh line up this year. Next season we can only get better.”
