Phi Alpha Theta's student membership grew by one third on Friday night when seniors Amy Ewing, Jennifer Openshaw and Jennifer Trompower were inducted.
The Alpha Iota Tau is a national history honor society for students who have at least 12 credit hours in history with a 3.1 grade point average in history courses and a 3.0 GPA overall.
"It gives us an opportunity to have discussions with other people that have an interest in history that we don't normally have dialogue with in everyday life," said member Ryan Starr.
The chapter's official charter began in fall 2001 after David Harris, then a junior, wrote the proposal in spring 2001.
"I am very honored to be part of this prestigious society. Dr. Thomas said if [Phi Alpha Theta] is on your resume, you can get into a higher pay bracket for government jobs," said Trompower.
The chapter's next event is a trip to Carter Fold on Feb. 8 for old time blue grass music and clog dancing in Hiltons, Va. The Milligan community is invited.
Current Milligan student members include Daniel Clemens, Karen Guyer, secretary and treasurer, John Hammon, David Harris, Erin LaVallee, president and Starr, vice president.
Faculty members Tim Dillon, Craig Farmer, Dennis Helsabeck, Don Jeanes, Sue Skidmore and Theodore Thomas also participate in chapter activities.
