Lady Buffs defeat Montreat College
The Lady Buff’s softball team scored a totally of 29 runs and had 32 hits as they handed Montreat two losses in a doubleheader on April 4.
In the first game, senior Carissa Ellis had three hits and junior Shelby Banion and senior Alyson Bowman each batted two for three. Senior Jenny Trompower also had two hits. The team combined to score 12 runs and allowing Montreat only two runs.
In the second game, the Lady Buffs won 17-7. Sophomore pitcher Brandy Waddle not only picked up two wins on her record against Montreat, but she batted four for five. Sophomore Danielle Gilley went two for three.
The Lady Buffs improved to 19-11 in the regular season and 16-4 in the conference.
Baseball team battled against Carson Newman
The Buffs battled hard at Carson-Newman College but lost 12-11 on April 7.
Milligan found itself down 8-2 in the third inning and finally took a 9-8 lead in the eighth but could not hold onto it as Carson-Newman came back to win the game.
Senior Scott Shealy led the Buffs by batting three for three and added his fifth homerun of the season. Sophomore Nathan Meade batted four for five, senior Jason Torres batted three for five and freshman David Rusaw hit his first homerun of the season, but this was not enough to bring the Buffs out on top.
The Buff’s record fell to 20-14.
