The Lady Buff’s softball team beat Montreat 13-8 in the first game and 8-4 in the
second game of a double-header at home on March 3.
“We won both of our games and played really well,” said junior Shelby Banion.
In the first game, senior Rebecca Dawson batted three for three with four runs,
one triple, one single and one double. Freshman Erin Bowers batted four for four
with three runs and two stolen bases.
“It was good to see everyone step up to hit,” said Dawson.
Freshman pitcher Brandy Waddle picked up the win for the Lady Buffs giving up no
hits and only one run.
Coach Wes Holly said that he was pleased with his team’s overall performance
with having very few practices and games due to recent weather conditions.
In the second game, sophomore Brooke Davis batted and added two runs and seniors
Andrea Henriott, Ashley Fine and Alyson Bowman each batted two for four.
“Andrea and Brooke had some big hits at clutch times,” said Banion.
The team combined to produce 19 hits in the first game and 13 hits in the second
game.
“This is the first time that the lineup as a whole has picked itself up,”
said Holly. “The middle of the line up did exceptionally well.”
With seven seniors on the team this year, Holly has high expectations for his
team this season. The team has a very solid infield and maybe the best in the
conference, commented Holly.
“I expect us to be at the top of the conference,” said Holly. “If our
pitching can improve and we can cut down on mental mistakes, I think that we
will have a pretty good ball club.”
