The 2007-08 academic year is just around the corner. Have you thought about what you will be doing when you are not studying?
Besides getting to know your roommate, making new friends, seeing old ones, and going to Applebee's for half-price appetizers, you will want to take part in the campus activities planned by students for students. Several organizations on campus offer you opportunities for spiritual growth, service, athletic competition, and fun and fellowship as you get to know other Milligan students.
The Campus Ministry Team is a group of students who assist our Campus Minister, Nathan Flora, as he plans the Annual Spiritual Renewal Weeks, various Bible studies on campus, all-night prayer vigils, and organizes the small groups in the residence halls. The committee also organizes the student-led Vespers services, which occur every Sunday night at 9 p.m. Vespers is a great time for students to come together for praise, worship, prayer, and encouragement.
L.I.N.C. Volunteer Center is eagerly anticipating your arrival in order to help link you as an INDIVIDUAL to the needs of the COMMUNITY. L.I.N.C. offers students the opportunity to serve area organizations such as children's homes, homeless shelters, food kitchens, after-school programs, and many more. Volunteering is a student priority here at Milligan. In addition to L.I.N.C., students can get involved with Beacon, Crossroads Mission, Rotaract, Service Seekers, and many other organizations that have a service component. Come to school this fall with a renewed commitment to give back to the community and serve others.
The organization knows as Fanatics works to help students take pride in and ownership of our athletics. They work to support every type of sport imaginable. Milligan has a premier athletic department and every season provides opportunities to support your friends and your community. Game give-aways, student trips to away games, and FCA gatherings are popular year after year with athletes and non-athletes alike. Intramural sports are all about fun, so there is also a place for EVERYONE to jump in and get involved.
The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is a group that likes to get you involved as soon as you arrive on campus with the annual Welcome Back Week, featuring an event each night of August 20-24. CAB is also responsible for sponsoring the majority of campus activities and social events that will take place throughout the year. From film events, dances and formals, concerts and coffeehouses, to trips and the much anticipated Marvelous, Terrific, Wonderful, Fabulous fill-in-the-blank Day, CAB is sure to offer something you can enjoy! This year we are excited to offer capture the flag, a fall barn dance, a trip to the Biltmore in Asheville, movie discussion nights and much, much more! At registration you will receive a complete listing of all CAB activities for the year.
SGA has been working hard in preparation for the upcoming school year. They are pleased to introduce this year's theme “Catching Fire,” to the student body. It is the hope of the student government that the community of Milligan College will take advantage of the unique environment and relationships that are fostered here to learn and to grow. SGA will be hosting an array of events and activities that will be sure to enrich your experience this year. TWIRP week (The Woman Is Required to Pay), Spirit Week, Family Weekend, Blood Drives, Martin Luther King Jr. service day, and the Jr./Sr. banquet are to just name a few.
Campus Life is brimming with activities and events to attend, people to meet, conversations to have, lessons to learn, and new experiences to brave. It's going to be YOUR college experience and it will only be what you make of it. In the words of Kevin McAllister in Home Alone, “This is it. Don't get scared now.”
So put yourself out there, try new things, and get involved! This is where college really happens. Bring it on! |
