Does it seem strange to think about Christmas in July? Not if you are using the airlines over the holidays! Since exams continue through Thursday, December 10, you will want to make reservations for departure after this date. Please be sure that whoever is making your reservations is aware of the College calendar. No exceptions to the final exam schedule will be granted. Early airline flights—even because of an exceptionally good fare—will certainly not be an acceptable excuse. All students must be gone 24 hours after their last final, with everyone gone by 5pm December 10. |

Students can view information about their academic record and student account in the college's student records database using the i.d. and password assigned to them for college network access. Among the information available to the students are semester class schedules, the college catalog, mid-term and final grades, unofficial transcripts, and charges and credits to the student's account.
Parents who claim students as “dependent” for income tax purposes may view students' grades by either (1) the student sharing i.d. and password with parents, allowing the parents to view the academic records online, or (2) the student completing a form available on the College website at http://www.milligan.edu/academics/pdf/FERPA_Authorization.pdf or in the Registrar's Office that authorizes grades to be mailed to parents and/or other types of communication. For additional information, contact the Registrar's Office at 423.461.8788.
Students who preregistered for classes at ETSU are reminded that they begin on August 29. You must be there for the first class session. ETSU's fall break falls on October 19-20. You are expected to attend ETSU classes during Milligan's fall break. If you decide not to take the class for which you preregistered, you must go to the Registrar's Office to withdraw. ETSU hours must be approved by completing an ETSU
co-op request form (available in the registrar's office).
Because Milligan College is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, a national association of over 100 Christian colleges and universities, numerous off-campus learning opportunities are available. These include: American Studies Program in Washington, D.C.; Australia Studies Centre in Sydney, Australia; China Studies Program; Contemporary Music Center; Latin American Studies Program in Costa Rica; Los Angeles Film Studies Center; Russian Studies Program; Oxford Summer Programme; Scholars' Semester in Oxford; Middle East Studies Program in Cairo, Egypt; Uganda Studies Program in Kampala, Uganda; and Washington Journalism Center in Washington, D.C. Endorsed by the CCCU, the International Business Institute, available to Business Administration majors, provides a summer opportunity to study international business. Information and application materials are available in the office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Besides the CCCU programs, Milligan College offers the Humanities Summer Study Tour. In addition, through an agreement with International Enrichment, Inc., Milligan offers the PCCIS Semester and Summer programs in London; classes are held on the campus of Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, part of the University of London.
Transfer students are evaluated for writing proficiency on the basis of an essay written during orientation. Transfer students who have not completed a math class must also take a mathematics proficiency examination during orientation. Performance on these proficiency examinations determines placement in developmental studies courses. Transfer students who have not completed a computer course must take a computer literacy exam. Students will be contacted during the summer regarding the exams they must complete.

Required Exam for SENIORS
Graduating students are required (see catalog) to complete a major exam in their declared area of study before receiving a diploma. For December graduates the date is November
13 at 3 p.m., in Wilson Auditorium and Derthick Computer Lab. For May and August graduates, the date is March 25 at 3 p.m., in Wilson Auditorium and Derthick Computer Lab. Put this date, time, and place on your calendar NOW; do not schedule anything else for these times.
Required Exam for JUNIORS
All returning juniors are required to complete the MAPP and CAAP exams on
Monday, August 17, 8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m., in Hyder Auditorium.
Please arrive by 8:15 a.m. Attendance is required and no exceptions will be granted.
Completion of these tests is required for fall term registration.
The MAPP and CAAP exams assess students in the areas of writing, critical thinking, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The college uses the results of these exams to evaluate and improve our general education curriculum.
For more information, contact the Director of Testing, Cindy
Wymer at 423.461.8415. (Pizza will be provided!)
CLEP Exams
CLEP examinations are offered on demand and are computer-based. Call the Testing Office (461.8415) to schedule an appointment. Credit for CLEP exams will not be granted after a student has earned a cumulative total of 64 hours of college credit. For a list of CLEP exams and required scores, see the table in the Testing Services section of the catalog. Requirements for exams are subject to change upon the recommendation of the Academic Committee.
Language Placement
Milligan College encourages any student who has taken a minimum of two years of high school French, German, or Spanish to take the language placement tests which are offered on Sunday, August 16, at 4 p.m., in Wilson Auditorium. These tests will determine the level of language study for which you are prepared. Brush up on what you already know so that you might have the opportunity to enroll in the intermediate level rather than the elementary level. All students seeking the Bachelor of Arts degree must earn credit through the intermediate level of a language.
