Student Development

Student Development at Milligan College seeks to promote faith, learning and living through Campus Ministry, Career Development, Campus Activities and Residence Life.

For students wishing to deepen their faith, participating in Campus Ministry programs at Milligan College will help you to both explore contemporary avenues and to refresh traditional practices of Christian worship, spirituality, and understanding of scripture.

Students interested in Career Development and learning about God's purpose for their lives will want to visit the Institute for Servant Leadership and inquire about the Servant-Leader Experience. Through the Servant-Leader Experience, we seek to nurture the hearts and minds of a new generation of servant-leaders for the church and society. We seek to help our students discover their central purpose and passion in God's call to change lives and shape culture through faith, service and leadership.

Finally, students desiring to enjoy the richness of living in community will want to take advantage of Campus Activities and Residence Life programming. Through programs and events in the residence halls and other campus activities, we hope to enable students to possess excellence in character, healthy lifestyles, leadership skills and lasting friendships.

Campus Life Sneak Peek!

The 2009-10 academic year is just around the corner. Have you thought about what you will be doing when you are not studying?

Besides getting to know your roommate, making new friends, seeing old ones, and going to Applebee's for half-price appetizers, you will want to take part in the campus activities planned by students for students. Several organizations on campus offer you opportunities for spiritual growth, service, athletic competition, and fun and fellowship as you get to know other Milligan students.

Campus Ministry Team is a group of students who assist our Campus Minister, Nathan Flora, as he plans the Annual Spiritual Renewal Weeks, various Bible studies on campus, all-night prayer vigils, and organizes the small groups in the residence halls. The committee also organizes the student-led Vespers services, which occur every Sunday night at 9 p.m. Vespers is a great time for students to come together for praise, worship, prayer, and encouragement.

L.I.N.C. Volunteer Center is eagerly anticipating your arrival in order to help link you as an INDIVIDUAL to the needs of the COMMUNITY. L.I.N.C. offers students the opportunity to serve area organizations such as children's homes, homeless shelters, food kitchens, after-school programs, and many more. Volunteering is a student priority here at Milligan. Come to school this fall with a renewed commitment to give back to the community and serve others.

The organization known as Fanatics works to help students take pride in and ownership of our athletics. They work to support every type of sport imaginable. Milligan has a premier athletic department and every season provides opportunities to support your friends and your community. Game give-aways, student trips to away games, and FCA gatherings are popular year after year with athletes and non-athletes alike. Intramural sports are all about fun, so there is also a place for EVERYONE to jump in and get involved.

Campus Activities Board (CAB) is a group that likes to get you involved as soon as you arrive on campus with the annual Welcome Back Week, featuring an event each night of August 17-21. CAB is also responsible for sponsoring the majority of campus activities and social events that will take place throughout the year. From film events, dances and formals, concerts and coffeehouses, to trips and the much anticipated Marvelous, Terrific, Wonderful, Fabulous fill-in-the-blank Day, CAB is sure to offer something you can enjoy! This year we are excited to offer a cook-out at the lake, trips to Dollywood and North Carolina, our infamous water tag game called GOTCHA!, movie discussion nights and much, much more! At registration you will receive a complete listing of all CAB activities for the year.

SGA has been working hard in preparation for the upcoming school year. They are pleased to introduce this year's theme “Engage” to the student body. It is the hope of the student government that the community of Milligan College will take advantage of the unique environment and relationships that are fostered here to learn and to grow. SGA will be hosting an array of events and activities that will be sure to enrich your experience this year. TWIRP week (The Woman Is Required to Pay), Spirit Week, Family Weekend, Blood Drives, and the Jr./Sr. banquet are to just name a few.

Campus Life is brimming with activities and events to attend, people to meet, conversations to have, lessons to learn, and new experiences to brave. It's going to be YOUR college experience and it will only be what you make of it.

So put yourself out there, try new things, and get involved! This is where college really happens. Bring it on!
