What is the Semester in Ministry?
The Semester in Ministry is an innovative program designed for college students who are exploring a career in ministry. During the semester, you will have an exciting and motivating internship in an area of ministry that connects with your interests and skills. You will be challenged and encouraged by active Christian leaders. Additionally, you will be able to earn academic credit while taking courses on the church campus. This semester long program is a perfect place for you to have a hands-on experience in Christian ministry as you grow in Christ. Learn more at the Semester in Ministry website.

What Will I Do?
Supervised Ministry: Working closely with a veteran minister who will serve as your supervisor, you will be set up to learn, serve, and succeed. Together you will design a Ministry Plan that will give you multiple opportunities to observe, assist, and lead in ways related to your unique interests and skills. You can look forward to being fully incorporated as a staff member of the church.
Academic Training: Courses are taught on the church campus and may include Biblical studies, ministry classes, and general education classes. Assignments include writing, case study reports, and reading and discussing a variety of texts.
Spiritual Formation: This aspect of the program is designed to enable you to concentrate on becoming the person God is calling you to be. Through peer group interaction, conversations with a mentor, personal reading, and the direction of the church staff, you will be challenged to develop personal character, which is the preeminent quality for faithfully serving Christ's church.
The program runs for approximately 19 weeks each semester. The fall semester is from mid-August through late December and the spring semester is from early January through mid-May.
Interns receive six internship credits for ministry work and nine credits for academic work. Interns are enrolled as a student at Milligan College during the internship.
Interns are matched with a host family from Mountain Christian Church. This is an exciting opportunity to connect with a church family and have a place to call home for a semester. Meals are included in the program.
Every effort is made to place interns with a family who lives within 15 minutes of the church. While it is helpful to have a personal vehicle, it is not required. Interns may arrange to carpool with one another if necessary.
The cost of the program matches the cost of a semester at Milligan, which includes tuition, room, board, and fees. Textbooks for courses will be a personal expense.
Contact Dr. Curtis Booher or your advisor at Milligan with questions or for an application. If you have any questions about this opportunity at Mountain Christian Church, feel free to contact Ethan Magness.
