UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH [Top]

In addition to the courses taught above, I have worked with a number of students in an independent study environment. The most notable of these was Carol Clifton at Middle Tennessee State University. The result of our study together resulted in a paper which was published in the Pi Mu Epsilon Undergraduate Research Journal resulting in a national prize, the Richard V. Andree Award, which distinguished it as one of the years best undergraduate research papers published in this journal.

"Some Operations on Matrix-Valued Expressions", Carol Clifton, PME Journal, 1993

Another independent study project resulted in a student presentation at the Hendrix-Rhodes-Sewannee Mathematics Symposium, held at Rhodes University in Memphis.

"Dynamics of Some Piecewise Linear Functions", Sherri Nittolo, H-R-S Symposium, April 1992

INSTRUCTIONAL WORKSHOPS (since 1993)    [Top]

May 1997 I Attended the Appalation College Association workshop entitled, "Using Technology in the classroom."

February 1995 I was a Presenter in the equity 2000 workshop: Alternative Assessment. The title of the talk and session which I held was, "Using Mathematical Models in Teaching Algebra."

August 1994 I was a Participant in the C3E workshop sponsored in part by the National Science Foundation held at Middle Tennessee State University.

May 1994 I was a Participant in a one week Harvard Consortium Workshop on Calculus reform held at Mississippi State University. Sponsored by the NSF.

June 1993 I was a Participant in a one week National Science Foundation sponsored workshop, "Teaching ODE's with Computer Experiments (CODEE)," held at St. Olaf's College in Northfield, MN.
