| NEW YOUTH PROGRAM OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS TO CIY CONFERENCES
New YIM Website
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (May 21, 2002) Fifty scholarships for teens to attend the national Christ in Youth (CIY) conferences held at Milligan are being offered by the new Youth in Ministry (YiM) program affiliated with Milligan College and Emmanuel School of Religion.
High school students interested in exploring how their vocational interests can be a ministry are eligible for the scholarships. More than 500 letters announcing the scholarships to the one-week CIY conferences in June and July have been sent to area churches and youth ministers.
YiM is a new program designed to encourage young people to explore more deeply the roots of their Christian faith, to examine their vocational aspirations, and to consider a career in Christian ministry, said Phyllis Fox, program director.
Beginning this fall, Youth in Ministry (YiM) will offer summits and retreats for high school students throughout the United States. The program is funded by the Lilly Endowment of Indiana. In October 2001, a four-year grant was awarded to Emmanuel School of Religion, a graduate seminary in Johnson City, Tenn., and Milligan College, a Christian liberal arts college, in Elizabethton, Tenn.
Both institutions are dedicated to developing Christian leaders who are prepared to serve and influence society with their lives and ministries, said Fox.
YiMs focus meshes very well with the Christ in Youth conferences, explained Fox.
This summer, CIY has given us the opportunity to present our program during their conferences held on Milligans campus. So we are offering scholarships to help teens attend the CIY conferences and learn more about the Youth in Ministry program while there, said Fox, who said those teens will be asked to attend four YiM presentations during the week they participate in CIY at Milligan.
Christ in Youth is a national youth conference that has been holding summer conferences at Milligan for more than 15 years. Based in Joplin, Mo., this year CIY will host more than 20,000 high school students at over 20 summer conferences on college campuses nationwide. Five of those weeks, representing almost 4,000 teens, will be held in East Tennessee at Milligan. The teens come with their youth groups from as far away as Florida and Michigan for the five-day CIY conferences.
The YiM scholarships to CIY are available for the Milligan conferences only. For more information and a scholarship application, or for more information about the Youth in Ministry program, please contact Phyllis Fox at pfox@milligan.edu or 423-975-8021.
