MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Sept. 13, 2011) — Milligan College is among the top 10 colleges in the South in two college rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report in their 2012 edition of “America’s Best Colleges.”
In addition to a No. 3 ranking in the “Great Schools, Great Prices” subcategory, Milligan also was ranked No. 9 among the “Best Regional Colleges in the South.” The criteria used to determine the U.S. News rankings include peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
To determine Milligan’s placement as one of the best buys among regional colleges in the South, U.S. News considers the college’s academic quality and the cost of attendance for a student who receives the average level of need-based financial aid. The higher the academic quality and the lower the tuition cost, the better the deal.
Milligan President Bill Greer is pleased with Milligan’s rankings, which reflect the college’s commitment to academic excellence and affordability.
“Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions a student will make, and Milligan is a wise economic and academic investment,” Greer said. “We are honored to be recognized for these strengths in the U.S. News rankings.”
Over the past 28 years, the U.S. News college rankings has grown to be one of the most comprehensive research tool for students and parents considering higher education opportunities. The rankings are available online at www.usnews.com/colleges beginning Sept. 13. The 2012 Best Colleges guidebook will be on newsstands Sept. 20.
In addition to its U.S. News ranking, Milligan was once again designated a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs, the premier magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. The list was released Monday, Sept. 12, by G.I. Jobs.
The 2012 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students.
The list was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 8,000 schools nationwide. Only 1,518 schools were selected for the 2012 Military Friendly Schools list. For a complete list of G.I. Jobs’ Military Friendly Schools, visit www.militaryfriendlyschools.com.
