Emmanuel prof. to present commencement address
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Dec. 7, 2001)-Thirty-one students will receive degrees at the college's winter graduation held this Friday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in Seeger Chapel. Dr. Fred W. Norris, a Milligan alumnus who holds a Ph.D. from Yale University and is currently a professor at Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnson City, will present the commencement address.
The 31 students graduating include two bachelor of arts, 15 bachelor of science, 3 masters of education (M.Ed.) and 11 master of science in occupational therapy (M.S.O.T.) degrees.
Norris is professor of world mission and evangelism and Dean E. Walker professor of church history at Emmanuel. He holds a bachelor's degree from Milligan College, a bachelor's of divinity and master of theology from Phillips University, and the master of philosophy and Ph.D. from Yale University.
Before coming to Emmanuel in 1977, Norris taught at Milligan College and the University of Tübingen. He was on the staff of the Institute for the Study of Christian Origins for five years and was its director for three years. He has also ministered with churches in Tennessee and Oklahoma.
Norris presently serves on the planning groups of Orbis Books' forthcoming history of world Christianity and Cambridge University's symposia on Mission in the First Millennium. His articles and reviews have appeared in a number of journals and collections of essays.
Norris and his wife Carol have two adult children and one granddaughter.
