Electronic Reference Works

General and subject-specific encyclopedic works provide quick reference and topic orientation for beginning your research.

If you are an off-campus user you will be prompted to login using Name and Barcode Number from your Milligan College ID card the first time you select a database from the list.

Latest content in the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, and the McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms.
The complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and the Britannica Book of the Year. Includes links to web sites selected by Britannica's editors.
Encyclopedia of Life Sciences contains authoritative, current, peer-reviewed articles on all aspects of the life sciences.

Specialized reference resources for multidisciplinary research, especially history, medicine, natural science, religion, and social science. "e" symbol on print volumes in the Reference Room are included in this collection.
Formerly Grove Art Online, Oxford Art Online includes the entire text of The Dictionary of Art, plus expanded art reference resources such as The Oxford Companion to Western Art, Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms, and an extensive image gallery.
Formerly Grove Music Online, Oxford Music Online includes The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, The New Grove Dictionary of Opera, The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, plus expanded music resources such as The Oxford Dictionary of Music and The Oxford Companion to Music, with new resources being added all the time.
Enter the NetLibrary site then click the "Reference Center" link in the right column box. Encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks, and thesauri on numerous subjects. Open selections "timeout" after 15 minutes of inactivity.
