| Welcome to Milligan College! We in the
Information Technology Department strive to make your transition
to campus life uneventful and easy. Below is
information concerning the Milligan network, CATV and Telephone
services.
The college provides a 100 mb switched network connection to
each housing unit with a 1 gb supporting backbone. Each
housing unit has at least two network connections.
Wireless access is planned for the Fall 2007 term in some of the
housing units. Labs are available for those students that
do not own a personal computer. This fall,
laptops will be available to be checked out by the students for
use in the library. Printers are provided in the library
for student use.
The college will not be using Microsoft Vista this year.
We have not determined exactly when the migration will occur.
We would suggest that you request Microsoft Window XP
Professional when purchasing a new computer. Also,
the choice of laptop vs desktop is one of preference the college
has no recommendation.
The college provides for students the Microsoft Office Suite
at minimal cost. Also, McAfee Antivirus is
provide at no cost. ALL personal computers
connected to the network must have current and active antivirus
software.
CATV service is provided by the college. However, we do
not provide the cables to connect your TV to the CATV port in
the wall. The length of the cable will be determined
by how you choose to arrange your room.
The college also provides telephone service to each housing
unit. However, long distance is not provided. The
college does not provide a telephone or the cable needed to
connect your phone to the wall jack. Again how you
arrange your room determines how long of a cable you will need.
