Milligan splits with Mars Hill

Mars Hill, NC-Milligan carried a three-run lead into the bottom of the seventh inning but couldn't hold the lead when Nathan Garrett hit a two-out grand slam to defeat Milligan 9-6. Milligan won the first game 5-4 behind solid pitching from Todd Speas.

Todd Speas (2-3) worked into the seventh inning for his second win of the season. He allowed six hits and four runs. Chad Davis worked out of seventh inning jam for his first save of the season. He stuck out one and got Brandon Haney to fly to center to end the game.

Scott Shealy led off the game with his fourth homerun of the season. He finished the game 1 for 3. Jesse Dannemiller hit a three-run homer in the second inning to put the Buffs up 4-1. David Rusaw and Nathan Meade each had two hits for the Buffs.

Trinity Phillips led off the second inning with a solo homerun pulling game to 4-2.

Tom Foster worked the first four innings for the Lions. He allowed four runs on seven hits for the loss.

Game 2
Nathan Garrett's grand slam spoiled Adam Taylor first career start for the Buffs. He worked into the sixth innings allowing three runs on four hits. He struck out two and walked three on the day. Rob Maynard worked out of a sixth inning jam with two groundouts resulting in three outs. Chris Shockley picked up the loss for the Buffs. He falls to 0-2 on the season.

David Rusaw went 4 for 4 with a double and a run scored. On the day, he had six hits in seven at-bats.

Nathan Meade continued swing a hot bat going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI's and run scored. He also walked reaching base all four times. Nathan Chandler had a clutch two-out double scoring both Ryan Dunn and Meade. That hit gave Milligan a 3-2 lead.

Milligan is 13-11 and will host Hilbert College on Thursday before an important weekend series with King College.
