Mars Hill knocks off Milligan, 9-8

Milligan College, TN-Chris DiMenna knocked in Tim Colgrove with two-outs in the top of the ninth to defeat Milligan 9-8.

Mars Hill jumped out to an 8-1 lead, half way through three innings, but Milligan clipped away at the lead before tying the game in the sixth inning.

Milligan cut the advantage to 8-4, when Brad Hitch hit a three-run homer in the third inning off Mars Hill starting pitcher Chris Flynn.

Milligan scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game. Dustin Price led off the inning with a double off the fence and later scored on Jesse Dannemiller's sacrifice fly. The big blow in the inning was an error on Mars Hill's second basemen allowing two runs to score with two outs.

Ben Whittemore had three hits for the Buffs. Pat Gould picked up two hits in three at-bats.
Matt Russell had two hits for the Lions.

Tom Foster worked the eighth inning to pick the win for the Lions. Ryan Lindsey tossed the ninth to record the save.

Todd Speas pitched 6.1 innings in relief for the loss. He allowed only one hit and the ninth inning run for the Buffs. He relieved Aaron Wallus in the third inning. Speas struck out six batters and walked four on the afternoon. He falls to 1-3 on the season.

Mars Hill opened up the game with six runs in the third inning.

With the loss, Milligan falls to 9-7 on the season. They will travel to Montreat College for a three-game weekend series starting on Saturday afternoon.
