Milligan falls short at Carson Newman

Jefferson City, TN—Carson Newman scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth and held off a Milligan rally to defeat Milligan 12-11 in baseball action Monday afternoon.

Milligan fell behind 8-2 after three innings, but stormed back to take 9-8 lead to the eighth but couldn’t hold the lead.

Scott Shealy led the way for the Buffs. He went 3 for 3 with his fifth homerun of the season. He ties Dustin Price for the team led. Shealy has nine hits in his last 16 at-bats to raise his season average to .400 (48 of 120).

Nathan Meade continued swinging a hot bat going 4 for 5 with four singles. The four hits raised Meade’s average from .321 to .349 on the season

Catcher Jason Torres had 3 hits in five at-bats for Milligan.

Freshmen David Rusaw hit his first homerun of the season. That was his only hit of the day. Ben Whittemore picked up two more doubles to giving him five in the last two games. He leads Milligan with 15 doubles this season.

Aaron Wallus took the loss in relief for the Buffs. He falls to 1-1 on the season.

Blake Ryman picked up the win for the Eagles.

Milligan falls to 20-14 and will play Lincoln Memorial tomorrow in 1:00 PM doubleheader.
