Milligan takes care of Brevard

Milligan College, TN-Milligan uses great pitching and timely hitter to sweep Brevard 5-3 and 6-0 in a conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. With the two wins, Milligan improves to 19-11 and 8-3 in the AAC Conference. Milligan runs its winning streak to six games and have won nine of its last eleven games

Game 1
Todd Speas (3-3) worked into the seventh inning to pick up win for the Buffs. He allowed three runs (1 earned run) on four hits. He struck out three and walked five on the day. Chad Davis worked out a jam in the seventh inning to pick up the save. His second save of the season. Davis entered the game with the tying run at home plate but got Scott Lefler to ground out and Ray Gill struck out looking to preserve the game for the Buffs.

Scott Shealy led the way for the Buffs going 3 for 4 with a triple and run scored. Ryan Dunn picked up two RBI's on infield grounder and a bases loaded walk. In his other at-bat, he singled and stole a base for the Buffs.

Lefler cut the score to 2-1 in the fourth inning with a solo homerun to leftfield. Brevard's other two runs came in the sixth inning. They used two singles and two errors to cut the lead to 5-3 but couldn't get any closer.

Chad Lanier took the loss for Brevard. He worked into the fourth inning allowing four runs and four hits. He walked six and struck out three. Joey Cress finished the game in relief for the Tornadoes.

Game 2
Brad Zachritz (3-2) tosses his first shutout of the season. He only allowed four singles in seven innings. Only one player got to second base for Brevard in game two. He enticed 10 ground balls out and struck out six while not walking a batter for Milligan. It was third complete game of the season for Zachritz.

Scott Shealy capped a four-run second inning with a two-out, two-run single that scored Nathan Meade and Jason Torres to put the Milligan up, 4-0. Milligan uses two walks, two hit by pitches, a groundball, and the single from Shealy for the four runs.

Dustin Price unloaded on a Matt Joplin pitch in the third inning for his fourth homerun of the season. He retook the team-lead for homeruns with four. He doubled and scored in the fifth inning to give him two hits in three at-bats.

Pat Gould continued swing a very hot bat picking up two more hits in two at-bats. His double knocked in Price in the fifth inning. He raises his batting average to a team-leading .400 (22-55).

Milligan will travel to Bluefield on Friday to start a three-game series with the Rams. The series will conclude on Saturday.

Matt Simmons (6-1) and Dustin Barrett (4-2) are schedule to pitch on Friday for the Buffs.
