Starr, Weaver voted Milligan’s Top Athletes

Milligan College, TN--- Ryan Starr and Wendy Weaver were honored as the top athletes for the 2002-2003 school year. They were honored during the Awards Convo on Thursday morning.
Starr, a senior from Bartlesville, OK, has been a member of the cross country and track team the past four seasons. During his career, Starr has made 10 trips to the NAIA National Championships, far more than any other athlete in Milligan history has. Starr is four-time All-Conference and All-Region performer in cross country and qualified all four years to compete at the national level. He helped Milligan to its first Cross Country AAC Championship in 2002. He holds the school record in both the indoor 3000 meters and outdoor 5000 meters.
Starr has excelled in the classroom and as well on the track. He will graduate with double major in History and Bible Ministries. Last spring, Starr studied over seas at Oxford University, part of the program called Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Oxford. He has made the Dean’s list every semester at Milligan College.
“Out of high school, Ryan could have attend anywhere he wanted, but we were so lucky that he choose Milligan. It was an honor to have the opportunity to know Ryan as an athlete but more importantly as a person. Ryan has made a huge impact to our program that will carry through for many years to come,” says Coach Chris Layne.
Weaver, a senior from Rex, GA, was a member of the Milligan’s volleyball team for the past four seasons. She was a member of the All-Conference team all four years and made the All-Region team in her last two seasons.
Weaver led the Lady Buffs to a 28-17 record in her final season. The Lady Buffs finished third in the regular season, runner-up in the conference tournament and qualified for the regional tournament in Louisville, KY.
Weaver led the team in kills, service aces, and total attack percentage. She finished second in digs and third in blocks for the Lady Buffs.
Weaver also excelled in the classroom. She will be graduating in May with a degree in History and is certified to teach at the secondary level. She also made the Dean’s list a number of times.
