Milligan beats Mars Hill in 11 innings

MILLIGAN COLLEGE -Pinch-Hitter Travis Mitchum singles home Chuck Arnold with two-out in the bottom of the 11th to beat Mars Hill 11-10.

Mars Hill's Karl Ruf got in trouble by walking Arnold and Scott Shealy allowing Mitchum to come up with the clutch single. It was the first RBI for Mitchum this year.

Down 10-6 in the eighth inning, Milligan gets off the deck to score four runs capped off with a three-run homer by Jeremy Christian to tie the game at 10. It was Christian fourth of the season.

Milligan used five pitchers for the win. Todd Speas pitched the 11th to pick up his first win of the season. He improves to 1-2 with a save.

Scott Shealy went 2 for 3 with four walks and a run scored. The two hits leave Shealy with 63 hits only two short of the Milligan's single-season hits record held by Dick Sabin in 1980.

Dustin Price (Science Hill) continued hitting the bat hard, going 2 for 6, including his fourth homerun of the season. It was a two-run shot to put the Buffs up 4-2 in the fourth inning. He has drove in eight runs in the past two games.

Brad Hitch also had three hits in six at-bats for the Buffs.

The Buffs improve to 19-22 and will play Virginia Intermont in a three game series this weekend. They will play a single game on Saturday at 2:00 PM behind Avoca Christian Church on Volunteer Parkway. The doubleheader will be played on Sunday at 1:00 PM at DeVault Stadium (White Sox Park) in Bristol.
