MARYVILLE, TN (February 5, 2007) --- It was a Jekyll and Hyde
performance Monday night as the Maryville College Scots (16-3) defeated
the Milligan College Buffaloes (14-11) 71-59 Monday night.
Trailing by 10 points starting the second half, Maryville went on a 14-5
run to cut the Buffalo lead down to a point lead.
With little over 11 minutes to go in the game, a three point shot by
senior Summer Dalton put the Scots ahead for good. The shot started an
8-2 run.
The Scots outscored Milligan 46-24 in the second half. Maryville turned
the ball over only one time the second half while forcing seven Buffalo
turnovers for a total of 19.
Maryville’s inability to get inside hurt them in the first half. The
Buffaloes dominated the boards, out rebounding the Scots 28-12.
A 10-3 run in the last 4:07 of the first half gave Milligan a 35-25
lead.
The Scots shot 22 percent in the first half on 7-31 shooting, but shot
46 percent in the second half.
The Scots were led in scoring by Dalton’s 18 points and 15 points from
Katie Saxe. Milligan’s Hali Sparks and Rikki Baughman each scored 18 and
10, respectively.
Milligan will play again on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 5:30 p.m. against
Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Covenant College at the Steve
Lacy Fieldhouse
