Lady Scots too much for Lady Buffs
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN
(February 7, 2007)
—The Milligan College women’s basketball fell to the Lady Scots of
Covenant College by a score of 71-59 at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on
Wednesday evening. The loss will drop the Lady Buffs’ record to 14-12
overall and 8-7 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Conference
rivals Covenant will move to and overall record of 17-7, and an 11-4
record in the AAC.
Milligan jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the contest capped by a
3-point bucket from Brit White (Chuckey, Tenn.) in the first two
minutes. Covenant would eventually tie the game and take the lead,
14-11, after Liz Martin scored four straight points with a free throw
followed by a 3-point basket. Martin ended the half by scoring a basket
to give the Lady Scots their largest lead of the half, 32-23, going into
the half-time break.
Lyndee Biles added to the Covenant lead to
start the second half with two made free throws, but Milligan responded
with a 3-pointer from sophomore Leah Anderson (Lexington, Ky.)
and a field goal from Hali Sparks (Erwin, Tenn.) to make the
score 34-28. This would be closest the Lady Buffs could come to the Lady
Scots for the remainder of the contest. Covenant built on their lead and
held on for the conference win.
Stand-out sophomore Rikki Baughman (Elizabethton, Tenn.) scored
14 points, grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and blocked two shots.
Anderson would be Milligan’s highest scorer in the contest, finishing

the Covenant effort. Biles would finish the game with 16 total points
and six rebounds.
Milligan’s next challenge comes on Feb. 10, when the Lady Buffs will
