Letterman's heroics propel Lady Buffs to
win at Bluefield
BLUEFIELD, VA (January 30, 2007) --- The Milligan College women’s
basketball team pulled out in impressive come from behind victory on
Tuesday night in Bluefield, Va., over Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC)
rival Bluefield College by a score of 67-61.
With just 7:14 remaining in the game, the Lady Buffs trailed by 11
points, down 51-40. Following a timeout by head coach Rich Aubrey,
Milligan quickly turned the tables. Kacie Letterman (Gray, Tenn.)
nailed three consecutive three pointers, the Lady Buff defense responded
with three consecutive steals and less than a minute later, trailed by
only two points with the game standing at 51-49.
Milligan rode the momentum out as Hali Sparks (Erwin, Tenn.) hit
a field goal to tie the game, and Brittany Kilgore (Kingsport,
Tenn.) scored to put the Lady Buffs ahead for good.
Sparks led all scorers in the game with 18 points and grabbed six
rebounds, Letterman finished with 16 points and Rikki Baughman
(Elizabethton, Tenn.) scored eight points and tallied nine rebounds.
The win improves Milligan to 13-10 overall and 7-6 in the AAC.
The Lady Buffs will be
back at home on Saturday, Feb. 3, to take on Bryan College at 5:30 p.m.,
in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
