MILLIGAN
COLLEGE, TN (April 21, 2007) --- The
Milligan College women's track and field
team won seven of the 20 events to take the
team title at the Tri-Conference
Championships held Friday and Saturday on
the campus of Lees-McRae College in Banner
Elk, N.C.
Senior Morgan Hyatt (Johnson City,
Tenn.) picked up victories in the hammer
throw and the discus throw. Junior
MacKenzie LaBonte (Port Charlotte, Fla.)
won the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters and ran
the first leg of the runner-up 4 x 400 meter
relay team. LaBonte's 1,500 meter time of
4:42 will receive an altitude adjustment to
4:39, which will give her another new school
record in the event.
Also picking up wins for the Lady Buffs were
junior Erika Fox (Gambrills, Md.) in
the 10,000 meters, sophomore Nicole Moore
(Boise, Idaho) in the 3,000 meter
steeplechase and junior Jacklyn Talbert
(Mt. Carmel, Tenn.) in the 800 meters.
Junior Kristen Bartlett (Simseropol,
Ukraine) and freshman Shanna Raines
(Johnson City, Tenn.) also recorded lifetime
bests in the 100 meters and 400 meters
respectively.
The Lady Buffs won the team title over
Anderson, Bryan, Carson-Newman, King
College, Lees-McRae, Mars Hill, Mount Olive,
Queens, Union, and Virginia Intermont.
"This was a team effort on both squads and
I'm proud of how we competed," said Milligan
head coach Chris Layne.
On the men's side, senior Josh Ferry
(Bloomington, Ind.) finished second in the
400 meters in a new school record and
personal best time of 49.38, while freshman
Aaron Wood (Aurora, Colo.) ran to a
lifetime best of 1:55.28 in the 800 meters
to finish third.
Senior Jair Collie (Johnson City,
Tenn.) also recorded a lifetime best of 4:04
in the 1,500 meter run. Collie finished
fourth overall.
Both squads will be back in action April
26th at the Brevard Invitational in Brevard,
N.C.
