LaBonte leads Lady Buffs to Milligan
Relays title

Milligan College
junior MacKenzie
LaBonte (Port
Charlotte, Fla.) won
the women’s 1,500
meters, and started
off the victorious
women’s 4 x 400
meter relay, to lead
the Lady Buffs to
the team title at
the Milligan Relays
held Thursday
afternoon at Johnson
City’s Liberty Bell
Track and Field
Complex.
In doing so, LaBonte
earned an automatic
national qualifier
and broke the school
record previously
held by former
All-American
Rebecca Dixon
with her time of
4:42.44.
Also picking up
win’s for the Lady
Buffs were senior
Morgan Hyatt
(Elizabethton,
Tenn.) in the shot
put, junior
Kortney Goulds
(Johnson City,
Tenn.) in the 800
meters and junior
Brittany Bales
(Kingsport, Tenn.)
in the 400 meters.
Goulds’ time of
2:18.76 in the 800
meters was a new
lifetime best.
Sophomore Jacklyn
Talbert (Mt.
Carmel, Tenn.)
finished second in
the women’s 1,500
meters, while junior
Erika Fox
(Gambrills, Md.)
finished second in
the 3,000 meters.
Junior Kristen
Bartlett (Simseropol,
Ukraine)
also sprinted to
runner-up finishes
in the 100 meters
and 200 meters.
Sophomores Ashley
Pearce (St.
Cloud, Fla.) and
Emily Schmitt
(Avon, Ind.)
recorded lifetime
bests in the women’s
1500 meters and 3000
meters respectively.
Milligan’s men were
led by junior
All-American Josh
Ferry
(Bloomington, Ind.),
who won the men’s
800 meters in a time
of 1:54.39. Ferry
also started off the
men’s 4 x 400 meter
relay that finished
second. Joining
Ferry on the relay
were senior Jair
Collie (Johnson
City, Tenn.),
freshman Aaron
Wood (Aurora,
Colo.) and sophomore
Will Frye
(Pulaski, Va.)
Wood finished third
in the 800 meters in
a season opening
best of 1:56. 78.
