MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 19, 2007) --- Milligan College head track and field coach Chris Layne announced this week that Pope John Paul II High School senior Chelsea Leavell will compete for the Lady Buffs next season.

Leavell finished second at the 2006 TSSAA State Track and Field Championships in the shot put after finishing fourth in 2005. She also co-captained the women's basketball team, while lettering in track and field three years.

"Chelsea is an outstanding student-athlete, and we're confident she'll impact our women's team immediately," said Layne.

She is the daughter of Duncan and Annette Leavell, of Springfield, Tenn., and she plans to major in either human performance and exercise science or education.  

Leavell was coached in high school by Roger Jones and was a peer leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
