MUFREESBORO, TN (January 20, 2007) --- Milligan College sophomore
Jacklyn Talbert (Mt. Carmel, Tenn.) won the women's mile and
junior MacKenzie LaBonte (Port Charlotte, Fla.) won the
women's 3,000 meters to lead Milligan at the Middle Tennessee
Invitational Saturday afternoon in Murfreesboro.
The Buffs and
Lady Buffs lined up against Middle Tennessee, Illinois, Western
Kentucky, Wallace State and Southern Mississippi.
Talbert's time of
5:09.66 was a lifetime best and automatic national qualifier.
LaBonte's time of 10:24.43 was also a lifetime best and automatic
national qualifier. LaBonte also finished third in the mile with a
lifetime best run of 5:12.59, while Talbert came back to in a fifth
place finish in the 3,000 meters in a personal best time of
10:47.74.
Junior Kortney
Goulds (Johnson City, Tenn.) finished sixth in the mile in
5:22.85, and crossed the line eighth in the 3,000 meters with a
lifetime best time of 10:54.52.
Freshman
Rebecca McDowell (Mechanicsville, Va.) finished seventh in the
mile with a personal best mark of 5:25.67, and sophomore Ashley
Pearce (St. Cloud, Fla.) lowered her lifetime best in both mile
and 800 meters.
Junior Kristen
Bartlett (Simseropol, Ukraine) set an indoor best in the 200
meters, just missing the school record. She finished 10th overall.
In all,
Milligan's women recorded eleven personal bests at the event.
On the men's side
Josh Ferry (Bloomington, Ind.) set a new school record in the
400 meters with a time of 50.26. Ferry finished seventh overall.
For the second
meet in a row, sophomore Will Frye (Pulaski, Va.) ran two
lifetime bests, this time in the mile and the 800 meters. Senior
Jair Collie (Johnson City, Tenn.) finished fifth in the men's
3,000 meters in a new lifetime best time of 9:11.71., while
sophomore Robert Newlin (Nineveh, Ind.) set a new personal
best mark in the shot put.
Both squads
combined for 14 top-ten finishes on the day.
