Milligan Tennis defeated by Cumberland MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (January 28, 2007) --- The Milligan College men’s and women’s tennis teams started the 2007 spring season with losses Saturday evening at Cumberland University. The men’s squad lost 7-2 while the women dropped an 8-1 match. Seniors Ryan Reynolds (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Stuart Makinson (Franklin, N.C.) won their singles matches for the two lone wins Saturday. Reynolds defeated Felipe Novello in their No. 1 singles match, 4-6, 7-6, 10-7, while Makinson won at No. 5 singles over Shayan Mirhosseini, 9-7. On the women’s side, freshman Melissa Grgat (Melbourne, Australia) won 6-0, 1-6, 6-2 in her No. 1 singles match. Grgat, ranked No. 29 nationally by the ITA, defeated Paula Guzman. The Buffaloes will be back in action February 10 against Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C., and their match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Meanwhile the Lady Buffs’ next scheduled match is February 17 at Mars Hill (N.C.) College.
