MILLIGAN COLLEGE,
TN (March 27, 2007) ---
Rachel
Landry of Boone, N.C. is the
first signed scholarship swimmer for newly
formed intercollegiate team at Milligan
College. The signing took place in Boone at
the Watauga Swim Complex with her family and
Milligan head coach
Ron Goehring
in attendance.
Landry competed with the Watauga Swim Team
and was coached by
Richard
Miller. Landry finished in the
top ten in the winter regional meet and top
three at the summer regional meet.
She has recorded a time of 59.67 in the
100-yard freestyle to go along with a
1:14.27 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Landry
also swam to a time of 2:26.87 in the
200-yard individual medley.
“I am excited that Rachel will be a part of
this historic time in Milligan’s rich
athletic history,” commented Goehring.
“Rachel is a quality person and an
outstanding swimmer. She will be an
excellent fit for Milligan and our team.”
The announcement of the newly formed
Milligan swimming team took place on January
24 at a media event inside the Steve Lacy
Fieldhouse. Milligan
formerly had a
swimming club from 1977 to 1986 and competed
against various club and intercollegiate
squads.
She is the daughter of
Greg
and
Nancy Landry and Rachel plans to
pursue a degree in nursing while at
Milligan.
