MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 27, 2007) --- Rachel Landry of Boone, N.C. is the first signed scholarship swimmer for newly formed intercollegiate team at Milligan College. The signing took place in Boone at the Watauga Swim Complex with her family and Milligan head coach Ron Goehring in attendance.

Landry competed with the Watauga Swim Team and was coached by Richard Miller. Landry finished in the top ten in the winter regional meet and top three at the summer regional meet.

She has recorded a time of 59.67 in the 100-yard freestyle to go along with a 1:14.27 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Landry also swam to a time of 2:26.87 in the 200-yard individual medley.

“I am excited that Rachel will be a part of this historic time in Milligan’s rich athletic history,” commented Goehring. “Rachel is a quality person and an outstanding swimmer. She will be an excellent fit for Milligan and our team.”

The announcement of the newly formed Milligan swimming team took place on January 24 at a media event inside the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Milligan formerly had a swimming club from 1977 to 1986 and competed against various club and intercollegiate squads.

She is the daughter of Greg and Nancy Landry and Rachel plans to pursue a degree in nursing while at Milligan.
