MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (May 9, 2007) --- Milligan College
head swimming coach
Ron Goehring has added two more swimmers to
the newly formed intercollegiate swim team that will
begin competition this fall.
Steel Stewart
of North Buncombe High School and
Sara Baker
from Richmond Hill High School signed with Milligan.
Stewart, from Barnardsville, N.C., competed for four
years with North Buncombe. He was a conference champion
in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events. At Milligan
Stewart will compete in the distance freestyle events.
Stewart’s parents are
Harley and
Julie Stewart, and Julie also was his coach
at North Buncombe.
Baker will compete in the 200 yard freestyle and back
stroke events at Milligan. She has attended practices
with the Savannah (Ga.) Swim Team since she was 11 years
old. She is the daughter of
Brian and
Nancy Baker.
Brian introduced Sara to the world of swimming, he
started the Northlake Aquatic Club in Atlanta and now
the club has over 100 kids in training.
The announcement of the newly formed Milligan swimming
team took place on January 24 at a media event inside
the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Milligan formerly had a
swimming club from 1977 to 1986 and competed against
various club and intercollegiate squads.
