MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 25, 2007) --- The Milligan
College softball team swept a doubleheader with Mountain
State University on Sunday behind an offensive outburst
from senior Megan Aldridge (Johnson City, Tenn.)
who went 4-for-6 with four homeruns and nine RBI between
the two games.
The
win improves Milligan to 18-14 overall this season.
Game 1: Milligan 10 Mountain State 2 (5 innings)
The
Lady Buffs exploded for seven runs in the third inning
that featured a three-run Aldridge homer.
Aldridge finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBI on two
homers. Leah Fritts (Knoxville, Tenn.) was
2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the game,
Jessica Blevins (Elizabethton, Tenn.) was 2-for-3
with a run scored and Laken Stewart (Pennington
Gap, Va.) had two RBI.
On the mound for the Lady Buffs, Kayla Walker
(Tracy, Cal.) started and went three innings, allowing
five hits and two runs. Jennifer Wise (Clermont,
Fla.) finished the game, throwing two scoreless innings.
Game 2: Milligan 10 Mountain State 3
Milligan started the scoring early in game two, plating
three runs in the first inning on a three-run homer from
Aldridge that scored Fritts and Blevins.
Aldrige hit her fouth homerun of the day in the third
inning and finished game two 2-for-3 with two runs
scored and five RBI.
Blevins went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI
and Jessica Russell (New Market, Tenn.) went
2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Maegan Hambrick (Lexington, Ky.), Walker and Wise
combined for the victory on the mound for the Lady
Buffs.
Milligan will travel to Brevard, N.C., on Wednesday,
March 28 for a doubleheader with NCAA Div. II Brevard
College beginning at 2 p.m.
