The Milligan
College
softball
team added two
wins Tuesday
afternoon at
the Savannah
College of
Art and
Design (SCAD)
Smash Hit
Softball
Tournament.
The Lady
Buffs
defeated
Wheelock
(Ma.)
College 9-1
and then
Milligan
ended the
day with
another 9-1
win over
Randolph-Macon
Women’s
(Va.)
College.
With
the two
victories
Milligan
improves to
9-5.

The Lady
Buffs jumped
in front
with a
six-run
first
inning. The
first run
was driven
in by
Jessica
Blevins
(Elizabethton,
Tenn.) with
a single.
The next
three runs
came in when
Leah White
(Gray,
Tenn.)
doubled.
White later
scored on a
fielding
error.
Melanie
Strickler
(Kingsport,
Tenn.)
doubled to
score
Mallory
Tincher
(Jacksonville,
Fla.) to
make the
score 6-0
after one
inning.
Milligan
added two
more runs in
the second
inning. The
first came
when
Leah Fritts
(Knoxville,
Tenn.)
scored on a
triple from
Jessica
Blevins
(Elizabethton,
Tenn.). A
sacrifice
fly from
Megan
Aldridge
(Johnson
City, Tenn.)
allowed
Blevins to
score and
make the
score 8-0.
The final
run for
Milligan
came in the
fourth
inning when
Aldridge
doubled then
Hannah
Cunningham
(Waterford,
Ohio) walked
and Tincher
doubled to
drive in
Aldridge.
On the
mound,
Maegan
Hambrick
(Lexington,
Ky.) pitched
three
innings of
shut-out
softball for
the win. She
only allowed
one hit with
four
strikeouts.
Tincher and
Blevins each
went 2-for-3
in the
contest.
Blevins also
scored two
runs and
drove in
one.

Randolph-Macon

Milligan
started the
game in
similar
fashion with
a six-run
first
inning. The
first two
runs came
when Blevins
doubled to
drive in
Fritts and
White.
Aldridge
added a RBI
double,
Tincher hit
a RBI
sacrifice
fly to left,
Jennifer
Wise
(Clermont,
Fla.) hit a
RBI double
and the
final run
was driven
in by
Strickler.
Aldridge hit
her second
home run of
the season
in the
second
inning.
Milligan
added
another run
in the
fourth and
fifth
innings.
Wise pitched
a complete
game for the
win. She
scattered
two hits and
gave up one
unearned run
with ten
strikeouts.
Blevins,
Aldridge and
Wise each
went 2-for-3
against
Randolph-Macon.
Blevins
tallied
three RBIs
while
Aldridge
scored two
runs and
accounted
for two
RBIs. Wise
also scored
two runs and
drove in
one.
The Lady
Buffs will
resume play
in the SCAD
Smash Hit
Tournament
Wednesday
afternoon.
First for
Milligan
will be
Malone
(Ohio)
College at 2
p.m.
followed by
a contest
against
Olivet
Nazarene
(Ill.)
University
at 4 p.m.
