Buffs, Lady Buffs tennis sweep King MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 3, 2007) --- In an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match-up Tuesday afternoon, the Milligan College men’s and women’s tennis teams swept opponents King College by scores of 9-0, 9-0 respectively. The victory will bring the Lady Buffs’ record to 4-5 overall, 2-1 AAC, while the Buffs move to 3-6, 1-1 AAC. King’s women hold a record of 1-3, 1-3 AAC, as the men move to 0-3, 0-3 AAC. On Senior Night at the Mathis Tennis Complex, seniors Ryan Reynolds (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Tom Jones (Johnson City, Tenn.) were victorious in the No. 1 doubles match. Fellow senior Stuart Makinson (Franklin, N.C.), along with Bryan Upshaw (Kingsport, Tenn.), won the No. 3 doubles match. Victories in the No. 2 doubles match and six-of-six singles matches, including wins from Reynolds, Jones and Makinson, resulted in a 9-0 sweep for the Milligan men. In women’s play, senior Krissi Denton (Bristol, Tenn.) and freshman Melissa Grgat (Melbourne, Australia) won the No. 1 doubles match 3-1, while Sara Hopson (Greeneville, Tenn.) and Janie Mullins (Greenville, Ala.) would take the No. 2 match. Senior Amber Campbell (Erwin, Tenn.) and Laura Bowman (Elizabethton, Tenn.) secured a victory as well in the No. 3 doubles match. Denton and Campbell, along with the remainder of the Lady Buffs were successful in singles play, completing the 9-0 sweep of King. Both Milligan teams will travel to Harrogate, Tenn., on Apr. 6 to take on Georgetown College at 2 p.m. in a non-conference match.
